Navy Strikes

Which darts suit beginners?

The 'perfect' dart does not exist, but the perfect dart for you does. For beginners it comes down to two choices: weight and grip. Here is how to choose without guessing.

Weight: start in the middle

Darts usually weigh 18 to 26 grams. Light darts (18 to 21 g) ask for a faster, more active throw; heavy darts (24 to 26 g) fly more stably but forgive sloppiness less. Most players end up between 22 and 24 grams.

The honest answer: you only know what fits once you feel it. That is why a set with several weights (for example 20/22/24/26 g) is the smartest buy for beginners, as you test four weights for the price of one set.

Grip: the rougher, the more hold

The barrel (the metal part) has a grip profile. More grip gives control, but can 'stick' on release. Sets with several grip profiles let you discover this too without buying multiple times.

Mind the components

Flights and shafts are wear parts. A 108-piece set with plenty of spares means months of play without reordering, no needless luxury for beginners who throw a lot (and therefore hit a lot they did not mean to).

Frequently asked questions

Are expensive darts better for beginners?

No. Technique and repetition make the difference, not the price tag. A balanced set with spare parts and the option to compare weights helps you progress faster than an expensive pro set.

What is the difference between steel tip and soft tip?

Steel tip darts have a metal point for sisal boards; soft tip darts a plastic point for electronic boards. Navy Strikes sets are steel tip.
