How to maintain a sisal dartboard
A good sisal dartboard lasts for years, if you follow three simple rules. This is how to keep your board sharp and your scores fair.
1. Rotate the board regularly
Everyone throws at the 20 the most. Rotate the board one segment every few weeks using the removable number ring, and you spread the wear so the field stays evenly tight everywhere.
2. Keep the board dry
Sisal and moisture are enemies: a wet board swells and the fibres never recover. So never clean a board with water and do not hang it in a damp shed. Remove dust dry, with a soft brush.
3. Use sharp points
Blunt or burred dart points tear the sisal fibres instead of sliding between them. Check your points now and then; slightly rough (not pointed) is ideal, so they grip the fibres without tearing.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a sisal dartboard last?
With normal home use and regular rotation: several years. Intensive players see the field around the 20 wear first, and rotating delays that for a long time.
My board has loose fibres, is that bad?
A few sticking-out fibres are normal; trim them with scissors. Never pull them, as you will pull the fibre out of the board.
