How do you prevent shadow on your dartboard?

Shadow on the board is the most underrated frustration for home players: your own hand or dart darkens exactly the segment you are aiming at. The cause is almost always the light source, and the solution is surprisingly simple.

Why your ceiling light is the problem

Light coming from one side creates shadow by definition. A ceiling light behind you throws the shadow of your arm and dart onto the board; a light above the board makes the wiring cast shadow edges across the segments. Your eyes compensate a lot, but on the treble 20 every bit of visibility counts.

The solution: light all around

A 360° LED ring around the board lights the playing surface from all sides at once. That cancels out shadows: no dark edges along the wiring, no shadow from your hand, and an evenly lit board even in an otherwise dark room.

Choose dimmable lighting: bright for practice, dimmed for atmosphere. And mind the mounting: a ring that clicks around the board or the surround does not need to be fixed to wall or ceiling.

Frequently asked questions

Isn't a spotlight above the board enough?

It is better than nothing, but a single light source always gives shadow edges along the wiring and from your own dart. All-round lighting is the only setup without shadow.

Does LED lighting also fit around a board of another brand?

Yes, the Navy Strikes LED ring fits around any standard 45.1 cm sisal board, with or without a surround ring.
